The factory KA24DE relies on an aging optical sensor located in the distributor, which was designed around the electronics and engine management systems of its time. When you’re running a modern standalone ECU, there’s no reason to continue relying on the factory optical trigger for your primary crank position signal.

The TripasGarage KA24DE 36-2 Crank Trigger Kit moves crank position sensing to the crankshaft itself using a dedicated 36-2 trigger wheel and Hall effect sensor. This gives your aftermarket ECU a clean, direct digital crank signal rather than relying on a cam driven unit to provide crank position.

Why Upgrade to a Crank Trigger?

A dedicated crank trigger provides the ECU with a much more direct reference to actual crankshaft position. The 36-2 pattern gives the ECU 34 physical teeth plus a two-tooth missing-tooth reference, providing frequent crank position updates throughout the engine’s rotation.
