Ordered the fan adapter and paired it with the Noctua NF-A6x25 5V 60mm fan from Amazon for a quieter fan option. The difference is huge. Noise dropped from 69.5 dBA (with the fan muffler mod) to 57.6 dBA without the muffler. Both tests were done with the same print file, 100% speed, and measured from the same spot.
I ended up printing a different mount than the one Austin recommends on his page, my filament kept clogging with the original, so I used this alternative, which is basicallythe same:
